And the beat goes on.....

Another case of how far parenting skills in America have declined recently, has come to my attention. A 41 year-old mother in Muskegon MI had pled no-contest in April 2007 to three counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. On June 18 2007, she was sentenced to 12 to 22 1/2 years in prison.

The woman's identity is being withheld to protect her daughter. The charges stem from an arrangement she made because she feared losing her boyfriend, Michael Fitzgibbon, 37. Her fears began when she found that she needed abdominal surgery and she wouldn't be allowed to have sex during the recuperation period. Her solution leaves many including myself wondering, what the heck were you thinking?

"What you have done to your daughter is one of the worst things I can think of," Judge Timothy G Hicks said at her sentencing.

I can understand the very real needs of a 37 year-old man may have in that situation but there are better solutions than what she devised. She had her 15 year-old daughter and Fitzgibbons sign a contract with her that would gaurantee he have sex only with her daughter while she recuperated. Her daughter testified that she was paid and received privileges such as hair dying, piercings and overnight stays with her own boyfriend.

Somehow this woman and her boyfriend, supposed adults, thought that a contract was more legally binding and a better solution to her "problem." They must have felt that a few magazines, DVDs or an occasional "loose woman" for the local neighborhood bar was not what they needed to stay together. I guess the contract was more binding than they had previously imagined.

Fitzgibbon was sentenced in March 2007 to up to 15 years in prison on each of the four counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was also sentenced to 12 to 25 years for each of two other cases involving first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a 12 year-old girl. He is serving the sentences concurrently after pleading no contest to the charges in February 2007.

It looks to me that Fitzgibbon and his 41 year-old girlfriend will have plenty of time to deal with their sexual needs more creatively.
