They won't leave me alone

When he fled the U S in 2001 from child pornography charges in California, the Atlanta native was virtually unknown. By 2006, John Mark Karr was working as a teacher in Thailand, planning to change his appearance by undergoing sex-change surgery and never return to the United States. He was also on the radar of law enforcement officials after a series of e mails of his came to light.

When the Thai authorities tracked him down and arrested him, he stated that he knew why they were. He told them that yes, he had been with Jon Benet Ramsey when she died. He claimed that he had known her long before her untimely death and that he had visited the Ramsey home several times, even before her death. After his "princely" return to the U S while in custody.... take note recent DUI starlettes of his treatment under arrest compared to yours, and repeatedly stating he was her killer, DNA evidence and no proof he had ever been in CO, cleared him of the charge.

Karr had moved back home it seems, to the Atlanta GA area and was living fairly quietly until recently. Police were called to his father's home, where he currently lives, to break up a family fight. Karr, 42, evidently had a heated argument with his girlfriend, possibly over who got to play with "Barbie" next and his father stepped into the fray. That brought the "happy" family to court where Fulton County Magistrate Judge Stephanie Davis said she would dismiss the misdemeanor charges of battery and obstruction of a 911 call if Karr attends 24 weeks of domestic violence counseling. She also dismissed the battery charge against his father.

John Mark Karr though has managed to grab a spot in the "whiners gallery" with his recent interview. He complained that while it was just a faimily argument, the neighbors were the ones to call 911. He said that it has been difficult for him to live a normal life as well. He claimed police harrassment and that sometimes people think his 22 year-old girlfriend is in her teens and call the police as well.

In an interview he gave July 31 2007, Karr whined that he has had people shout out that he is a killer or yelled obscenities at him. The neighbors haven't been very shy about their feelings when he moved back into his father's home, giving him a less than a warm southern welcome. He stated that he is not a registered sex offender but people treat him as if he were. He also insisted in the interview that he has never harmed a child even though he has been investigated in three other child murders.

He proudly stated that his fiancee, Brooke Simmons, 22, has been by his side, supporting and defending him. Simmons, a divorced mother of one child, began sending letters of support to Karr after his return to the U S and Karr said that he hopes that they can marry and live their lives together. I have always wondered what it is about some women that attracts them to a man in prison and in the case of Karr, a man who claimed he killed a child.

I'm sorry that Karr seems to be so far out of his own "loop." He whines that life is tough for him and he fears for his own safety at times but he was the one who claimed he killed Jon Benet. He fled the country when faced with child porn charges and he has married very young girls before. He is 20 years older than his fiancee, so maybe she is "childlike" enough for him. All this whining is from the man who still visits Jon Benet's grave frequently, a place where he has said he goes to reflect.
